ROUNDABOUT problems at Salford Priors could be a step nearer resolution following the release of a Highways Agency report on tackling the issue.

The report on the roundabout, which links the B439 with the A46, was compiled last year and took into account the number of accidents and how they were caused.

The flow, density, and speed of the traffic crossing the roundabout had also been monitored.

The Highways Agency has now issued recommendations as to how the roundabout could be made safer.

Copies of the report have now been passed on to the parish council clerk Eric Mitchell and Stratford MP John Maples.

Annie Harris, highways agency press officer, said: "The agency has suggested that there should be yellow bar markers which get closer and closer together to give the impression of speed.

"We would also like to carry out the realignment of the kerb on the south approach as well as some landscaping to reduce the excess visibility.

"Because drivers can see the roundabout from a long way off, they tend to make their decisions earlier than they should.

"If we can reduce that visibility then it might make the roundabout safer."

She added that it was not clear when this work would be carried out, as it was a question of allocating funding.

Mr Mitchell said he was grateful for the report and hoped that the work could be carried out soon.

He said: "The report has been passed on to the parish council, but we now hope it's not too long before the work can be carried out.

"There has been numerous complaints about the speed of the traffic crossing the roundabout and we hope the speed of the traffic travelling northbound on the A46 will decrease, and drivers will feel safe to join the roundabout."
