KINETON proved the only stumbling block as Chipping Campden School's rugby sides got the season off to a fabulous start.

The annual block fixture saw Kineton run out winners in Years 8-11 but elsewhere it was points all the way as Alcester High, especially, on the receiving end.

Campden's Year 11 side stormed to a crushing 60-0 win, while the Year Ten squad defeated the same opponents 26-7. The school's first XV overran Cotswold School to record an emphatic 41-5 success, in which Ed Bailey crossed for four tries.

Like Kineton, Alcester Grammar also proved too strong for the Year Nine side who went down 29-19 despite a battling second half showing.

The Year Eight side recorded a double success with a win over St Benedicts (Cheltenham) and a 50-10 defeat of Winchcombe. Jake Adams bagged a hat-trick of tries in both games.

The first XI football team started their campaign with a tremendous 7-1 defeat of Stratford High School.

Forwards Sam Gill and Duncan Ross ran amok and both scored three times to add to player of the match, Robbie White's solitary strike.

Year Eight and Nine girls made progress into the second round of the prestigious West Midlands Knockout Tennis Trophy after a one-sided victory over Kings HS (Warwick). They now face Alcester Grammar in the next round.

The senior netball side produced a brilliant team performance to defeat their old foes from Evesham High School 17-8.

The Year Ten girls hockey team hit back with a vengeance after losing 5-0 at Evesham.

They visited Banbury School, where they registered a crushing 4-0 success.

Fiona Drinkwater scored twice.

Their Year Eight counterparts faced two stiff tests early season but have shown signs of real spirit.

They lost 2-0 to St Edwards and then were unable to find the net again in a goalless draw with Bredon.

The Year Seven netball players started their season in brilliant fashion. They fielded two teams against Blackminster, recording 6-2 and 6-3 wins with Sophie Bagnall and Tessa Derbain winning the layer of the match awards.

However, St Edwards proved a different proposition and Campden were powerless to prevent a 21-1 reverse.

The Year Eight A team lost 7-1 to Blackminster but a spirited B team gained a 4-4 draw.

Goalkeeper Ruth Read, unfortunately, suffered a broken nose against strong Cleeve School opponents in a 7-5 defeat after Campden had led 4-1.

However, their narrow loss was soon forgotten when Kingham were swept aside 19-12.

There's been dual success for the Year Ten side after one-point wins over Cleeve and Kingham.

The former were defeated 13-12, while 21 points proved just enough against their fellow Cotswold side when solid defence again proved the key.
