MEALS ON WHEELS: It is a matter of some regret that after six years in the post of organiser for Meals on Wheels in Bredon, Christine Collins is retiring. As happens so often, an already busy person was called on to do this very important job. Those of us who deliver meals, and I'm sure, those who receive meals have found Christine a very efficient and effective organiser, and we thank her for all the time she has devoted to the task over the years. Somewhere out there, there must be a person with the interests of the elderly and housebound at heart who would volunteer to be Christine's replacement. If so, he or she could approach Jayne Stock, area food manager, WRVS, Worcester.

BREDON COMMUNITY CARE: Recently held a meeting at which the question of transport was discussed. Chairman Mary Everett appealed for volunteer drivers, particularly those with cars large enough to accommodate a wheelchair in the back. It was noted that the users of the wheelchair bus who are dropped at the door of the Tewkesbury branch of Tesco are invariably unable to find suitable trolleys for their use. The chairman said she would visit the manager to try and resolve the problem. The date of the AGM was fixed for November 14 at noon.

AUTUMN FEST: It is now serious countdown for the events being organised to raise money towards the refurbishment of the children's play area. On the afternoon of October 13 is a scarecrow's tea party, named this only because local children are invited to come in fancy dress or make models or draw pictures. Apart from these activities, the afternoon is very much geared to all age groups. There will be a bottle stall, bric a brac, books not only for grown ups, but also books and toys for children. The produce stall this time of year should prove enticing with jams, chutney and pickles, not to mention fresh garden produce and bakery. Teas will be served by a team of local ladies with home made cakes to tickle the palate. If this were not enough, on that evening at 6.30pm there will be a family disco, with light refreshments available and a bar for the adults. Entrance will be by ticket only (£3 per adult and £1 each for a child) which are available by phoning 773601. During the course of the evening, the grand raffle will be drawn. If you have contributions to make to any of the stalls, or if you need more information phone 772477 or 773774. See you there!
