AN extra doctor is on the cards for Cookley after a meeting to discuss shocking figures which put it bottom of the pile for health.

The village is set for a part-time doctor to help out sole GP Manel Saverymuttu at the medical centre, Lea Lane, after the forum with health chiefs.

Worcestershire Health Authority director of public health Prof Brian McCloskey told the meeting it would take another four to six weeks to analyse the report, which put the ward bottom of the county for health.

Cookley district councillor Chris Nicholls, who organised the meeting, was pleased with the turnout of about 100 villagers.

He said: "It was a very useful meeting. There were some searching questions and frank answers.

"Prof McCloskey explained the report. We will now await with interest his analysis."
