Resident group The Nonentities turned their attention to farce, a notoriously difficult genre to perform, with their latest production at The Rose.
Despite one or two slips in the timing, a crucial element in plays such as Ray Cooney's Funny Money was mostly effective and the whole thing flowed entertainingly enough.
The plot is far too convoluted to go into detail in this limited space - but I am not sure I am well suited to watching farce as I found the constant confusion agitating and I left The Rose firmly on edge - maybe this was the intended effect!
Athol M'Donald carried the production well in the lead role as Henry Perkins, an accountant who unwittingly picks up a briefcase containing £735,000, while Stanley Barten was convincingly slimy as a corrupt detective.
The action certainly seemed to go down well with the audience and on a personal note it was nice to see my old English teacher Martin Drury make a late cameo - particularly when he was pummelled with a briefcase!
