AS the "congregational wardens" at St John's Church, Kidderminster, we did not recognise our church congregation in the article presented in the Shuttle/Times & News on September 27, entitled "Vicar is defiant at loss of support".

Some deft political manoeuvres have ensured that the elections of St John's own congregation, in which the majority supported Charles Raven, were overturned by people from other churches in the team.

This has resulted in a church council not elected by our own congregation, but contrived by others.

Having achieved this however, this council can still only muster 15 votes against our stand for biblical integrity in our church leadership - not really a "crushing" result.

The support of "flock members" is evidenced in the degree of interest and financial pledges for our trust - The Forerunner Trust - of which we are both trustees.

This trust pledges to support biblical and orthodox ministry for our church congregation.

It is a sad day for the once great Church of England when priests preferring to give precedence to faith, rather than church rules and order, are hounded in the way Charles Raven is.

Be in no doubt that there is a very great deal of support in St John's for his leadership and preaching, and for that of the Rev Kelvin Shilvock.
