TALKS are underway on the future of an historic Stourport building which was bought by British Waterways last month.
The Tontine Hotel, which was owned by Banks's Brewery, closed its doors in August after it was sold to a developer with plans to convert it into flats.
The sale of the building to British Waterways was revealed by the Shuttle/Times & News last month.
A spokeswoman for British Waterways said the building had a "major part" to play in the regeneration of the basin and the town.
She added: "We have spoken to the local authority and the civic society as well as to other partners about their ideas for the future of the Tontine.
"Our hope is we will ensure a sustainable use for the whole building and make sure people have a chance to enjoy this landmark."
The Tontine, built in 1772, is regarded at the finest Georgian building in Stourport and is Grade II listed.
