A FORMER industrial chemist who tried to make controlled drugs in a cellar has been warned he could face jail.

Shawn Dilley admitted attempting to produce ecstasy and amphetamine in the building in Bewdley High Street between April 14 and November 17 last year.

The 32-year-old, now of Kettering, also admitted producing amphetamine and stealing chemicals, laboratory equipment and bin liners belonging to Unilever plc between December 31, 1998, and November 17 last year.

Stephen Thomas, prosecuting at Worcester Crown Court, said it was accepted the drug production was in an intermediate stage.

It was estimated 200 ecstasy tablets worth £800 could have been made.

Some of the equipment stolen from Unilever was listed for scrapping. But other equipment and chemicals taken had been ordered by Dilley in Unilever's name.

Adjourning the case for a pre-sentence report, Judge Michael Mott gave Dilley bail but warned that he was "in great risk" of custody.
