A DEDICATED website is to be launched chronicling the life and times of a well-respected Stock Green man who died in August.

John Whybrow, aged 76, was known and loved by his neighbours in the village and surrounding area through links with clubs and churches.

In his time Mr Whybrow was a talented musician, artist, photographer, historian, rambler, army officer and all round community figure.

Now old friend Brian Price, of Flyford Flavell, has decided his friend's life should be recorded for posterity.

Rare photographs, including one of the earliest photographic plates taken of Birmingham's oldest pub, The Old Crown in Deritend in 1857, have been discovered.

Most of them are of old Birmingham, from where Mr Whybrow hailed, and with which he later compiled two books, How Does Your Birmingham Grow and Birmingham In The Past.

Christie's has agreed to auction many of the fine prints early next year but not before Mr Price has transferred several to the site.

The rest of the website will be split into 16 sections with contributions from people who knew Mr Whybrow.

Details of his schooling, war service, Boys' Brigade career and business will be chronicled.

Anyone who knew Mr Whybrow and and feels they could contribute can call Mr Price on 01386 462346.
