DEAR EDITOR - In recent years the voters in Droitwich Spa have been increasingly incensed by the antics of Wychavon District Council.

Examples include mass mental housing schemes, unwanted parish hall complexes, building on green belt areas, the great lido sell off, dismissing the public vote for a supermarket in Kidderminster Road, and the world famous Nellie Copson saga.

Regularly Wychavon proves it is out of touch with reality in Droitwich Spa.

The Evesham/Pershore alliance out-votes Droitwich time after time. It is about to get much worse!

Recently councillors replied to a public question about the current review of district council boundaries.

They believed it would not affect Droitwich Spa, because the number of electors per ward is the government recommended ratio.

Droitwich would keep all its councillors, while sparsely populated rural wards would be amalgamated.

Droitwich would maintain, if not increase, it's proportion of representation at district council level.

Sources at district and county level have told me the following:- the number of councillors on Wychavon District Council will be increased from 47 to 49.

Amalgamations will free six more places. To take up these seats five new urban wards will be created in Evesham and three in Pershore.

The representative power of Droitwich Spa within Wychavon District Council will be diminished.

Are town or district councillors for Droitwich Spa aware of the full extent of these proposals?

Do they realise the distrust felt by many Droitwich voters, towards a district council already ignorant of their needs, views and local knowledge?

Will town and district councillors fight on behalf of Droitwich people for fair proportional representation within Wychavon District Council?

If so, how?

Mark Heel,

Burrish Street,

Droitwich Spa.
