DROITWICH Colts 34 Pershore Colts 0. The Colts started their season with a sound victory over their Pershore counterparts. Droitwich took the ball to the opposition, driving straight and hard around the fringes. Their support play was also impressive. The team worked tirelessly and will be happy with the performance. Steve Duffield was the most successful try scorer, going over twice.

Luctonians U14s 0 Bromsgrove U14s 17. In the preliminary round of the North Midlands Cup, Bromsgrove secured progress into the first round after a hard-fought contest. They started well and were unlucky not to take the lead with two scoring opportunities, Hinks and Hopkinson just failing to finish off some well-worked moves. The pressure of the visiting side continued and Bromsgrove took the lead following a quick penalty which saw David Hughes score in the corner. Luctonians were unwilling to concede the game and raised their performance in the second half. Bromsgrove defended well and re-established control when Hughes broke off the back of the scrum to claim his second try which he then converted. Luctonians rallied but were unable to change their luck due to strong Bromsgrove defence. With the game moving to a close finish Bromsgrove extended the lead with a well-worked try when James Hinks broke from the base of the scrum. Skipper Thomas Winterbottom once again excelled. The team must improve on its performance if progress is to be attained.

Bromsgrove U16s 24 Old Sihillians U16s 19. Bromsgrove started with confidence and played well as a unit. The first points came from a penalty by Joe Baker. Bromsgrove applied more pressure when Tom Rostrup chipped over their defence for Alex Cawston to gather and score under the posts, making the score 10-0. Bromsgrove were well in control when Pete Douglas's solo effort managed to break through and score, ending the first half 17-0. Unfortunately, after a fine start, Bromsgrove began to self-destruct and Old Sils changed their tactics by running all their possession through their much stronger and faster backs. Old Sils managed to pull back three tries to put them in the lead. With minutes left, Bromsgrove gained ground and were awarded a penalty. George Edginton took advantage and powered through to score and win the game. MoM was Joe Baker

Bromsgrove U15s 38 Wolverhampton U15s 5. With the backs showing some direction and the forwards providing excellent possession, Bromsgrove started well and were soon probing the Wolverhampton defence. Strong pacey running from James Hall and Dan Davenport and good second phase play produced some sparkling rugby, which saw 19 points scored by half time. A wind advantage in the second half allowed outside half Martyn Hubbleday to kick, gaining the territorial position which resulted in three quick tries. Bromsgrove then switched off, allowing Wolverhampton a deserved late try. Try scorers were James Hall, Russell Ledger, Ollie Burt, Kyle Eadie, Oliver Meeson and Phil Patrick while conversions were added by James Upton (two), Robin Crawford and Martin Hubbleday.

Bromsgrove U13s 43 Bridgnorth U13s 7. Town's forwards were in command and able to supply the backs with good possession. In fine conditions the backs took advantage of their superior handling skills and ran the ball at every opportunity. Having scored two early tries Bromsgrove made a number of changes. It was good to see the way in which some of the less experienced of the squad -- Luke Jones, Stuart Watt, Martin Bunn and Tom Broderick -- were able to fit in and keep the tries flowing. Overall Bromsgrove scored seven tries (Ben Raybould two, George Crook, Sam Schofield, Matthew Newell, Tom Hinks and Tom Cole) and converting four (George Crook two, Scott Morris and Simon Roberts).
