FINSTALL cyclist Nick Walford has just completed a fine season on the track.
The 23-year-old clin-ched the Purse of Gold trophy for long distance racing in the 15-round Halesowen Track League -- the main track event in Birmingham.
Nick, who rides a specialised bike, also helped Birmingham Cycling Club win the team pursuit and finished third in the individual pursuit.
His teammate pipped him to the overall points award but Nick, an engineer in the town, is determined to finish first next season.
He said: "Every year I've got better and better and I think next year I can finally beat him.
Another fine performance for Nick was in the ten-mile time trials, where he managed a personal best of 20 minutes 47 seconds. "I'm hoping to go sub-20 minutes next season as well," he said.
Nick now starts winter training ahead of his bid to win the league next year.
Part of his preparation will be a training trip to Majorca with club colleagues in April.
