A ONE-DAY conference about "talking and listening" this Friday looks set to be attended by more than 100 social care and health staff including some from Bromsgrove and Droitwich Spa.

The joint venture between Worcestershire Health Authority and Worcestershire County Council's social services department will be held at Worcester's University College.

Social services director Jennie Bashforth said: "This conference will include workshops designed to strengthen communications between ourselves and the people who use our services."

One of the key issues organisers are hoping will emerge from the conference is an education module that can be used to help health and social care workers respond more effectively to the needs of service users.

During the conference, the Minister of State for Health, Jacqui Smith, will speak about her aspirations for improved user participation.

University College's department of health and social care head, Alan Weale, said: "We welcome the opportunity provided by this conference to strengthen the voice of service users and to find ways in which we can all work together to ensure health and social care services truly reflect the needs of those who use them."
