A CAMPAIGN has been launched to find new premises in Marlbrook to be used as a post office because the original site is to be turned into a fast food outlet.

The post office, in Old Birmingham Road, is to close at the end of November and be turned into a Chinese restaurant and takeaway after Bromsgrove District Council passed the plans last month.

The move caused an outcry among residents who said it would cause a nuisance to neighbouring homes, traffic hazards, noise, smell and other health and safety issues.

From November 30, Marlbrook pensioners and other householders will be forced to use post offices around the district, the nearest are at Catshill, Fairfield and Lickey.

Post office rural transfer advisor Zoe Hibberd said: "It is not our wish to see this office close and we are seeking applicants with suitable premises to take over post office provision for Marlbrook."

The post office is currently working with Catshill and North Marlbrook Parish Council to identify suitable alternative premises and potential applicants to run an office in the village either for similar hours as at present or for a more limited service.

Mrs Hibberd added: "We are keen for the service in Marlbrook to be fully restored as quickly as possible."

Anyone interested in the position should call the post office recruitment team for an application form on 0845 601 6260.
