A RUBERY radio presenter is to deliver a star performance when she takes to the screen next month in a television production about the lives of midwives.

Radio Hollymoor presenter Pasty Thomas will appear on Carlton television's Baby Hospital as she speaks to midwives at Birmingham Maternity Hospital about childbirth and pain control.

The mum-of-two, a Community Service Volunteers (CSV) media radio production student at Hollymoor Multi Media Centre, saw an advert from the programme makers as she went for a scan.

The producers were looking for pregnant women to feature in the six-part documentary and were very interested in Pasty's imminent birth because she had an 11-year gap between her first and second child.

She was filmed interviewing the women for the daily community show on Radio Hollymoor.

Baby Hospital programme producer Karen Pearson said: "We filmed the midwives on air for our six part series which is transmitted this November.

"Everybody at CSV Media/Radio Hollymoor made us feel very welcome and we were impressed by the level of professionalism shown by the volunteers.

"The results make a great addition to the series."

It turned out Patsy already knew one of the midwives from earlier in her pregnancy when she had to be checked out following a car accident.

She later went on to be filmed giving birth and said: "I suffer from a back condition and was quite worried but the birth went well."

Patsy was in labour for 18 hours and gave birth to a 5lb 15oz baby girl, called Samiah.
