BLACK Country angler Ally Cox (Parks Tackle) showed the way on Tuesday at the Woodlands View Affordable Open pole fishing worms at Arles Pool peg 6. He took a 63-0-0 carp catch. His team mate, Charlie Jeavons, was second with 55-15-0, third Chris Ball (Spartans) 54-12-0.

The Starlet Veterans held their event at Hawford Claines near Worcester with Brian Dickinson (Bewdley) taking top spot by pole fishing casters up in the water at top pool peg 25 for 25-8-0 of small carp. Second John Osman (Northfield) 16-1-0, third Alan Ryan (Worcester) 14-4-0.

On Wednesday, Moorlands Farm Meadow Pool Open was won by Clive Munslow (Preston Inovations) from peg 48 with pole and corn at four metres for 86-0-0. He was followed by Steve Woodhall (Shrewsbury) with 69-13-0, third Terry Stanley (Moorlands) 67-6-0.

The Thursday Special Open was held on the Bank and Meadow Pools with Scott Smith (C S M) making good use of fancied peg 12 on the Meadow Pool, taking a first placed 78-5-0 with pole and corn. Lee Richards (Fosters M G) was second with 61-5-0 and third Pete Ricketts (West Mids) 61-0-0.

The Starlets Veterans made a first time visit to Astwood Fisheries Buddleia Pool and John Osman (Northfield) went one better and took a first placed 11-3-0 of small mixed fish with pole and maggots from peg 65, second Geoff Carter (Kings Norton) 9-1-0, third Stan James (Bewdley) 8-4-0.

On Saturday the annual BAA Club Secretaries Contest was held on the River Severn at Quatford, and with the river slightly up with a tinge of colour it should have produced the goods but it wasn't to be.

Winner Kevin Hodgetts (Phoenix A C) needed just three barbel scaling in at 14-13-0 taken with feeder and white maggots from the renowned Harris peg.

Joint runners up were Laurie Mullhern (Cradley Heath Labour) and Sid Smith (Carrs Paper AC), both with a single barbel each for 3-13-0. Neil Ferriday (100 A C) was fourth with 1-15-0.

Neil McKinnon (Shakespeare) was a ton-up winner at the Moorlands Farm Meadow Pool Open when he pole fished casters shallow at peg 49 for 102-12-0. Mick Henshall (Fosters MG) followed with 67-0-0, third Lee Richards (Fosters MG) 57-14-0.

A close result at the Woodlands View Deans Pool Open was headed by Tim Guise (Fisherman's Friend) with short pole fished chopped worm and casters at peg 35 for 52-12-0. Second David James (Woodlands) 52-9-0, third Paul Sibley (G T I Midland Match) 51-1-0.

Sundays Woodlands View Open saw Paul Sibley (GTI Midlands Match) lead the field with a pole and caster catch of 75-9-0 from Deans Pool peg 29.

Second was Stuart Mortlock (Woodlands) 67-7-0, third Nathan Watson (Woodlands) 54-0-0.

The BAA Annual Canal Championships took place on the Staffs-Worcs Canal between Botterham Lock and Greensforge. Warren Blizzard (M N Autos) was champion after pole fishing casters from six pegs below Botterham Lock for 7-5-0 of roach and perch, Dave Oliver (Cock and Magpies) was a close second with 7-0-0, third John Ellis (Bulls Head A C) 6-11-8.

Welfare Cup winners were the three man 100 AC team of Keith Woodhead, Mick Tremlett and yours truly Tony Brunn with a 12-13-0 total. Sue Jacques (Kidderminster) took the Ladies Trophy with 2-12-0 and Stan Lewis (Mallards) was the top veteran with 1-6-0.

Kings Norton AS fished its seventh Aggregate Contest at BAA Nordley Pool two, where new Bromsgrove resident John Walker came out a clear winner with a pole and caster five carp catch of 25-15-0. Northfield's Jim Pedley had a last minute six pound carp to boost his second placed catch to 8-5-0, third Pete Sum 7-3-0.
