WORCESTER City boss John Barton is bidding to strengthen his squad after a disappointing run of results in the Dr Martens Premier Division which has seen them pick up five points from 15.

The St George's Lane chief is keen to boost his options and could be poised to sign a player before Saturday's FA Cup third qualifying round tie with St Blazey, although any new faces would not be eligible for the tie.

"We've been trying to bring someone in but it has become harder to strengthen the team during the season," he said. "But I would like to think we might be able to bring someone in quickly."

City's players will travel to Cornwall on Friday ahead of their cup clash with the reigning South-Western League champions.

Head scout Graham Selby watched the unbeaten Cornish side last week and Barton knows his team faces a stern test against a side who've won all their matches this season.

"It's a different kettle of fish to Barnstaple but we are going to have to be at our best to get into the next round," he said.

City travel to Bromyard Town tonight (7.45) for a Worcester Royal Infirmary Cup tie.
