Droitwich RFC 36

Woodrush RFC 10

Midlands Division Four

West (South)

DROITWICH registered their first win of the league campaign on Saturday when they defeated Woodrush.

It was a much better display by Jon Andrews' men, especially in the second half where the lines of running and support play was excellent.

Hopefully this will be the springboard Droitwich have been looking for to get their season up and running.

The Spa side started brightly and looked to run the ball at the opposition.

Neil Evans straightened the line well and beat the defence to feed inside to Simon Mountjoy who scored.

Mountjoy added the difficult conversion.

Woodrush hit back with a try when the home defence seemed to lose concentration, although Droitwich had the final say of the half with Mountjoy adding two penalties in the difficult swirling wind.

Impressive

Spa began the second half brightly, and seemed to re-discover the impressive support play that has been a feature of their play in recent seasons.

Jamie Faulkener came off his wing to burst up the middle before putting in a clever kick for winger Dave Halsall to chase and score.

Droitwich's play was improving all the time, typified by number eight Gareth Knight who had an excellent game setting up numerous Spa attacks.

A fine run by captain Andrews set up Nick King to score try number three.

Then a forward drive resulted in veteran prop Aid Spencer burrowing over to score.

The scoring was completed when another break by Knight saw him feed Halsall for him to score his second.
