EVESHAM United moved up to second place in the Dr Martens Western Division with an entertaining 3-2 victory at Solihull Borough last night.

The visitors were behind after nine minutes when poor defending allowed Simon Hollis to pick up a loose ball on the edge of the area and shoot past Darren Steadman in the Robins goal.

But Evesham levelled on 24 minutes through a superb Guy Hadland volley, his second goal in as many games.

Two goals in two minutes put United in the driving seat. The first coming on 63 minutes through a brilliant Andy Hodgetts volley from a Shaun Pratt header off a Steve Taylor free kick.

In the Robins next attack a strong run by Phil Preedy ended with him curling a delightful shot into the top corner to put them 3-1 in front. Solihull came back however and four minutes later, from a free kick, Nick Amos was left unmarked to easily plant a free header past Steadman, who later produced a tremendous double save to deny them an equaliser.

Evesham: Steadman 7, Smith 7, Pendleton 6, Clark 7, Powell 7, Pratt 7 (McCartan 85), H Hadland 8, Taylor 7, Roberts 6, Hodgetts 7 (Brown 80), Preedy 7 (Parmenter 90).
