IT looks like the end of the road for Astwood Bank residents campaigning for the speed limit in the High Street be reduced from 30mph to 20mph.
It was announced at a neighbourhood group meeting last week the county council believed the proposal unjustified as there were no accident statistics to warrant a speed reduction.
Chairman Mike Chalk said the Highways Partnership agreed there was a problem at peak times but advised this was not enough of a reason.
He said police did not oppose the request but believed a 20mph limit would be difficult to enforce.
