IF we are to raise the profile of local politics and attract the electorate back to the ballot box, our political representatives must begin working together for common causes, and not try to usurp each bit of bad news for their own political ends.

They must also stop using their own advantaged position to manipulate systems and exert 'control freakery' over everyone, even their own membership, if we are to attract young voters back into party politics

A common cause such as the current threatened cuts to our bus service is a prime example. Comments such as 'I am starting a petition' smacks of extreme egoism. What the public may prefer is a statement like 'All your elected councillors are working together and support the local press campaign and would ask you to sign their petition' Etc.

Marketing is OK in its place, but it smacks of insincerity when it is used for individual self-glorification and not for the collective good.
