FALLEN soldiers from a village near Droitwich Spa are to be honoured as part of a £2,000 rejuvenation project.

Hanbury Parish Council is smartening up the war memorial and gardens off Droitwich Road.

The memorial is engraved with a dedication to all those who lost their lives in battle during the last century but does not feature their names.

Twenty-eight young people from Hanbury died in the First World War and four died in the Second World War.

Their names are listed in Hanbury Church but councillors believe it's time they featured on the war memorial.

Cllr David Griffiths told the Advertiser: "The council has realised the memorial garden could look a lot more attractive.

"We will carry out gardening and renovation work. The plans to engrave the memorial will play a key part in the tidy-up.

"We believe they will make the memorial more meaningful and be beneficial to parishioners."

Before plans are set in stone, councillors want to be sure they have the name of every fallen soldier from the village.

The authority is appealing to friends and relatives of those who died to come forward if their loved one's name is not recorded in Hanbury Church.
