A TOWN councillor has hit out at developers who she claims are riding roughshod over Droitwich residents.

Construction is now under way at the controversial Primsland Way site - much to the dismay of Wychavon district councillor Eileen Hope (Con, Droit.South).

She and townsfolk fought for ten years to block plans for the two shops, including a convenience store.

Their campaign ended when they lost an appeal against Primsland Estates Ltd.

Cllr Hope says she is now receiving frequent complaints about contractors carrying out the work. She claims cement and mud have been slung across nearby roads and workmen are parking on narrow pavements in residential areas.

Infuriated Cllr Hope said: "It's bad enough that residents have to live with a development they didn't want, without all this extra hassle. It's very distressing.

"I am sick and tried of developers riding roughshod over the public - I will never set foot in their in-convenience store."

CDS Development Services Ltd, in Shirley, is responsible for the development.

A spokesman said: "Our workmen sweep the roads every day to ensure they are clean."

He said the site had been subject to systematic vandalism. A forklift truck was set on fire at the weekend, new guttering has been smashed and cement was poured down a portable toilet used by workmen.

The spokesman added: "There have been numerous incidents. We have contacted the police and they are monitoring the site."
