A WORCESTER woman who was among the victims of the city's floods was today due to welcome a celebrity chef to cook up a storm in her new kitchen.

Pauline Makepeace dashed off a poem after watching the BBC show Housecall, in which viewers were offered the opportunity of having TV chef James Martin visit their homes and cook them a gourmet three-course dinner.

Entries had to be in the next day, so the city mother wrote her poem in five minutes and ran up to the post office.

"I can't believe it," said Ms Makepeace, whose Cavendish Street home was hit by last autumn's floods.

"They told me there were thousands of e-mails and letters and out of everyone they chose me."

The city mother has just had a new kitchen fitted after the floods devastated homes in the street.

"They called me last Tuesday to say I'd been shortlisted and they came round to visit. The next day they said I'd won!

"They talked about the house and read the poem out on air, saying it was a fantastic poem."

She says she's invited neighbour Mary Dhonau, who has championed the cause of Worcester flood victims, to the meal.

"The poem was about being flooded. I just wrote about what I knew. I just grabbed a pen and wrote it while the programme was on," said Ms Makepeace.

"It's amazing. The BBC told me they had lots of entries because of the chance to have a meal cooked by James Martin.

"Being a flood victim has opened so many doors. You don't get many celebrities coming to Worcester."

The meal was expected to consist of charred tuna, chicken breast with wild mushroom sauce, and American baked cheesecake.

A camera crew was due to film the meal - cooked and served by James Martin - to be broadcast on Housecall.

The winning poem

Come on James and cheer us up

We've been up to our knees in muck.

The floods did us very wet

And in the process we did fret.

But now we're nearly back to norm

So come on James cook us up a storm.

I've got myself a brand new kitchen

So what's the thing that now is missing?

A visit from the very best

TV's most talented chef.

It's nearly a year to the day

That my kitchen floated away.

I hope you choose us to treat

Cos you're the guy we want to meet.
