HIGHWAYS chiefs have stepped in to solve traffic problems in a village near Droitwich Spa.

Last week, the Advertiser reported on the road chaos in Wychbold caused by the closure of a popular truckers' diner.

Sunnyside Cafe, off the A38, shut its doors on Friday September 28 to make way for a hotel and a McDonald's restaurant.

Many regulars were unaware of the closure and huge lorries continued to pull off the M5 only to find the cafe empty and the car park locked.

Confused drivers found they had little room to manoeuvre their huge vehicles and created lengthy traffic jams on the A38, while attempting to turn in the road.

The Advertiser contacted the Highways Agency, based in Birmingham.

Bosses decided warning signs about the closure were needed in the village and on the motorway slip roads.

Four signs are currently being made and should be in place shortly.
