A DROITWICH man has been re-sentenced for a string of offences after breaking his curfew order to go out looking for drugs.

Norwich magistrates gave Ben Green another chance when they conditionally discharged him in May for three counts of theft, together with an assault charge and possession of cannabis.

He was told he had to stick to a curfew but repeatedly went out between noon and midnight to satisfy his need for drugs.

The 21-year-old of Fridays Acre, Chawson estate, who has 32 previous convictions, was re-sentenced by Droitwich magistrates this week.

The court heard how he assaulted a Debenhams member of staff who spotted him on CCTV stealing clothes on November 9, last year.

"He wrapped the four coats and fleece around the hangers and walked out," said Doreece Gunter, prosecuting at Droitwich.

"After being followed he threatened to cut the member of staff and grabbed him around the throat.

"They managed to restrain him and found cannabis in his trouser pocket and stolen Virgin Megastore CD-Roms in his bag."

Green also admitted stealing three joints of beef from Marks & Spencer when he appeared before Norwich magistrates on Friday, May 4.

Ahmed Hussein, defending, said Green broke the curfew because of his dependency on drugs.

"He was unable to kick the habit and had to breach the order to get some," he said.

"The only time he was able to stop was when he had the cold turkey regime of prison.

"It really brought it home to him."

"He is walking a tightrope and needs help."

Magistrates sentenced him to a 12-month drug treatment and testing order, warning him it was certainly his last chance.

"You owe it to your parents who sit behind you to become a responsible person," he was told.
