Chris Oldnall's Sidelines column

ASSISTANT manager Gary Barnett hopes that Sunday's 1-0 Nationwide League Division Three win at Macclesfield Town will kick-start Kidderminster Harriers' season.

The victory ended Harriers grim sequence of eight matches without victory and given Jan Molby's troops a major confidence booster ahead of Saturday's home clash with rivals Cheltenham Town.

Barnett said: "We had had a bad run of results and confidence does play a big part in that.

"We created a few chances in the second half against Swansea the previous week and we did that also at Macclesfield. If we can start scoring a few more goals I see no reason why we won't start picking up a few more points."

Sunday's win coincided with the return of Craig Hinton after a frustrating spell on the casualty list.

The highly-rated central defender, who had been sidelined with groin trouble, said: "I have to admit I'm not a very good spectator and it's been horrible having to watch from the sidelines.

"I would much rather be out there playing. At least you can try to do something to influence what's going on."

Like Barnett, Hinton hopes Kidderminster can turn the corner with their Macclesfield triumph.

He said: "We've got to believe in ourselves. There's no magic answer. All we can do is work hard and do the basics right.

"We are always going to create chances, the big problem has been that we haven't taken them."

Meanwhile, Molby may pursue his interest in Danish striker Bo Henriksen who has recently been on trial with Harriers.

The 26-year-old has now returned to Danish First Division side Herfolge after a week-long stint at Aggborough.

Molby said: "We were just taking a look at Bo and he made a good impression. There are still five or six weeks of the Danish season left and he is under contract at Herfolge, but we may pursue things in the future."

Molby has also run the rule over trialist goalkeeper Gerard Doherty who played for Harriers' reserves in their 2-0 Avon Insurance League Division Two win against Wigan Athletic at Aggborough last week.

The 20 year-old Irishman, formerly on Derby County's books, had a spell at Ilkeston Town last season.

Molby said: "We are just looking around. We might not be able to bring in people at the moment, but we are still looking. If you see one or two you like you put them in your notebook.

"Sometimes we are short in the reserves and we bring in one or two trialists."
