A NIGHTCLUB assistant manager on trial for rape told police he thought he was "set up" by a false accusation.

Rikki Reynolds admitted having sex with a 21-year-old woman at his flat, but insisted she consented.

He claimed she found it exciting because she knew he had a girlfriend and was happy and laughing while they were in bed together.

Worcester Crown Court heard yesterday that in a police interview, Reynolds said: "You hear this on the movies, a set-up sort of thing."

He added: "We just ended up in bed together, it wasn't planned. I'm not an aggressive person. I couldn't hurt anybody."

Reynolds, aged 30, of Bastion Mews, Union Street, Hereford, denies raping the woman at his home after leaving his city job in the early hours.

The woman has told the jury she accompanied him home because he was drunk. She then felt intimidated and repeatedly tried to stop his love-making efforts.

But she claimed Reynolds undressed her and twice forced her to have sex before letting her leave.

Det Con Andrew Duckworth arrested Reynolds at his home on Saturday, May 19, the day of the incident.

Reynolds protested: "I did have sex with her, but she consented. I didn't force her. If she didn't want sex she could have left at any time."

The defendant said he had a stiff drink and was staggering when he left the club.

He claimed to police the woman flirted with him as they walked and he invited her to stay the night.

The trial continues.
