PAUL Stammers (County Commentary, July 7) says "let's bow to the inevitable". Then, on August 2, same reporter states that "residents want new shop".

It concerns me greatly that millions of pounds spent constructing a bypass to alleviate traffic problems, particularly HGVs, from St Johns, will have been totally wasted. Maybe this money would have been better spent on upgrading schools?
Currently, 72 per cent of pupils travel by foot to the Christopher Whitehead school. Will that remain the same by moving more than a mile away? I think not. We all know the majority will be transported by car. More traffic, more gridlock throughout St John's and Worcester.
IAN GILLMAN,
St John's, Worcester.
