A BOMBSHELL was dropped after Kidderminster Harriers finished their first Division Three campaign with a 1-0 defeat at York.

Danish winger Thomas Skovbjerg, out of contract in the summer, flew back to Scandinavia with his girlfriend, slipping away with the minimum of fuss after playing his last game for Harriers.

Popular Skovbjerg (pictured above), a star of the Conference campaign, had battled back from a bad knee injury to score his first Football League goal.

Assistant boss Gary Barnett reflected: "I think everybody admired him, including players and supporters at other clubs. He's a showman.

"Mike Marsh was a big reason why we won the Conference but he will be the first to admit there were a lot of other major factors and Thomas was one of them.

"He's a very strong character and his girlfriend being here was tremendous for him. But it was difficult for them leaving friends behind -- sometimes she would feel isolated and so would he."
