MR MARGRETT writes of the respective land areas and population of India, China and the UK.

I calculate India has 783 people per square mile; China has 325, while the UK, with just 94,000 square miles of land area, has 617 people per square mile.

With such a huge population density, shouldn't we now consider our nation "full up," rather than continue to concrete over our green and pleasant land?

From media figures, we need to add four "new city of Worcesters," to the fabric of our nation, every year, to accommodate an influx of 100,000 "essential workers," a "natural" rate of immigration of 90,000, and 70,000 asylum seekers, plus all their associated children.

Is it any wonder our roads are jammed solid with traffic, our island is disappearing under concrete, and local authorities up and down the country cannot cope with the demands being placed upon them?

If our nation follows global trends we shall have 120 million people on our tiny island by 2030 - twice as many as there are now.

Are we really mad enough to attempt to cope with that "growth", by building a "10-lane" version of the M42, to cope with traffic predictions?

Are we going to cover our entire island with concrete to house such a large population?
