COLWALL are once again left to uphold local honour as the Wadworth 6X National Village Cricket Champion-ship moves into its national stages.

The Stowe Lane side have won the Worces-tershire, Herefordshire and Powys regional group of the competition for a record eighth time and for the third year in succession.

Four more games stand between them and a dream trip to Lord's, starting at Northampton-shire side Isham in the last 32 on Sunday.

Last year they suffered a heart-breaking defeat at the same stage, when they tied with Elvaston only to go out by virtue of having lost more wickets. Elvaston went on to win the competition.

"It is a good sign that we matched the eventual winners last year," said Colwall skipper Dave Sutton, "and hopefully we can take that on."

Colwall's progress to this stage has been more sedate than usual, with victory at Chaddesley Corbett in the area final. Sutton added: "We haven't had a particularly close game yet - they've all been fairly comfortable so far."

Colwall have named the same team that beat Chaddesley for Sunday's encounter, while they will be backed by around a coach-load of around 50 supporters.

Sutton admits they don't know much about Isham, but added: "They beat Rushton in the area final, who knocked us out a couple of years ago, and the league they are in suggests they will be a fair side."
