GLARING errors in a new glossy guide aimed at attracting more visitors to Bromsgrove has prompted the district council to mount a quick "cover up operation."

The 25,000, 20-page colour brochures, which cost the council £4,500 to produce, contain a number of factual errors.

The worst gives the town's heritage museum's address as being in "Bromsgrove" Road instead of Birmingham Road.

The mistake is also repeated in 50,000, copies of a four-page leaflet about Bromsgrove Museum which has been sent to information centres, hotels and tourist attractions nationwide.

Council staff now have the task of fixing corrected stickers over the wrong addresses and inserting correction sheets into each guide.

Cllr Terri Matthews, (Con, Furlongs) cabinet member for recreation amenities and tourism, said: "Regrettably, mistakes have occurred.

"However, we have moved rapidly to correct them and to ensure next year's brochure and subsequent ones will be as perfect as we can get them."

The guide, which has been part funded by advertising, will be updated and revamped every year.

Cllr Matthews claimed the cost of making the corrections is less than £200.

Next year it is hoped half the production cost will be met through advertising leading to it being printed at no cost to taxpayers.

Labour group leader Cllr Peter McDonald (Uffdown and Waseley) quipped: "This council has not only wasted close on £5,000, but has made Bromsgrove the laughing stock of the UK.

"Bromsgrove Road is in my ward at Romsley which is seven miles away from where the museum really is."
