HEALTH Concern county councillors from Wyre Forest have helped the Conservatives to take two top jobs at County Hall.

Peter Fallows became the fifth chairman of the county council, while Bob Bullock was elected vice-chairman.

The Conservatives, who have the largest share of the number of seats, have formed a minority administration as they are three short of the 29 seats needed for overall control.

Councillor Fallows, a senior Tory member from Hagley, was challenged by Richard Udall of Labour for the position of chairman, but the six Independent Health Concern candidates backed Councillor Fallows who was elected by 32 votes to 23.

They abstained during the vote for a vice-chairman which saw the nomination of Councillor Jeremy Webb by the Liberal Democrats.

Independent Health Concern councillor John Gordon said his grouping would remain neutral and make up their own minds on issues. The cabinet, which will run County Hall with the Leader, Councillor George Lord, is made up of six Conservatives, three Labour, two Lib Dems, one Independent Health Concern member and one independent.
