PLANS for an office block on a trading estate in Malvern Link look set to be approved next week.

Midland Commercial Estates Ltd wants permission for a two-storey building off Sandys Road in Enigma Park.

The company has also applied for the lifting of two planning conditions which were imposed on the estate when it was approved in 1995. These restrict working hours and prevent windows being installed in the building's south side.

But a number of residents in Malus Close and Spindle Road, near the industrial estate, have objected to the proposal.

They have expressed fears about the effect of the changes on the value of their houses and the potential for nuisance, although some said they had no objection to longer working hours.

The applications are due to be discussed at a meeting of Malvern Hills District Council's southern area planning committee on Monday (June 4).

Both are being recommended for approval by the council planning officers.

In a report which will go before councillors, the officers say: "The applicant has indicated that working hours restrictions would render the site uneconomic.

"It has also indicated that no occupier would want to work in a building that has had its design compromised by inadequate light and ventilation."

Planning officers said that as long as the proposed building was far enough from houses it would not adversely affect the residents.

They also say that, although restrictions on working hours should be lifted, deliveries should be restricted to 8am-6pm, Monday-Friday, and 8am-1pm Saturdays, with none on Sundays or bank holidays.
