A WORCESTER woman who caused an uproar in the casualty department of Ronkswood Hospital was released on bail - only to assault a police officer the following day.

Erica Kelly was arrested for being drunk and disorderly at the hospital on Saturday, April 7. Just one day later, she was arrested by police following an argument with a male friend in Angel Place, magistrates were told.

When the woman police officer tried to take her into the police station, Kelly lunged at her, pushing her forward and causing her to fall against the metal custody door.

Droitwich magistrates were told the first incident took place at A&E around 1am when police officers were directed towards the patients' toilets where Kelly was causing a disturbance.

"Her language could be heard by patients and staff. She was arrested and charged over the matter then released on bail."

However, around the 11pm the next day, police came across Kelly again, in Angel Place.

"She was standing in a shop doorway and was spotted by police pushing a male companion into the shop doorway," said Mrs Hill.

"She was calm on the way to the police station but when she got out of the car her conduct changed and she advanced towards the officer.

"The officer took evasive action but the defendant lunged at her and she fell backward hitting her arm against the metal custody door."

Kelly, of Gamekeeper's Drive, Blackpole, admitted two charges of being drunk and disorderly and one charge of assaulting a police officer.

Kelly was jailed for four months and fined £200.
