EVESHAM Archery Club's defence of the triple crown of area competition began in fine style with a resounding victory at the Redhill American.

The annual event, first in the Worcester trophy series, again saw over 100 archers completing the 90 arrow round at distances of 60, 50 and 40 yards.

In the compound bow section Lloyd Burton reigned supreme with an impressive 84 golds in his total of 798. Jacquie Williams claimed the junior lady prize with a high class 724 including a six gold end at the second distance.

Olympic bow archer Malcolm Porter took silver for the second year running, while Peter Williams secured the bronze, Laurence Gregory finished fifth.

Last season's leading junior Andrew Crowther collected the under 18 runner up medal.

Barbara Stanway was sixth lady with Linda Haines seventh.

Ian Trout was once more the top limited compound bow.

Evesham's four of Malcolm Porter, Lloyd Burton, Peter Williams and Barbara Stanway accumulated 2957 to lift the team trophy.
