THE usual poor attendance at the annual general meeting of the Evesham Table Tennis Association listened to chairman Lynda Reid give a brief report of the season in which she highlighted the fact that ladies singles champion Dorothy Macfarlane and junior girls singles champion Emma Talbot had both represented the county at different levels.

Treasurer Grahame Brown reported that the association had made a profit of £20.07 for the year ending April 30 and he was fairly satisfied with the situation. His one main concern was the expense of entry fees for the representative teams which had been in excess of £215 of which £176 was for junior and cadet entries. These had been heavily subsidised this season and without the subsidy the cost next season would be more than double.

It was decided that the executive committee would decide whether to be more selective of entry, enter fewer teams or find a way of fund-raising.

A long discussion then took place on the form and points system for league play.

The meeting heard that the international table tennis federation has agreed to change the scoring system to 11 up.

This means anyone playing in competitions where there are ETTA ranking points, county matches, open tournaments and national junior league matches will adopt this system.

The English Table Tennis Association has not yet decided whether this system would become compulsory and the feeling was they may let local leagues like Evesham choose 21 or 11 up. The meeting deferred on a decision until an extra committee meeting to be held on July 18 by which time the association will have contacted all last season league players via their team captain.

The meeting was sorry to hear that general secretary Ray Griffiths wished to resign and after a unanimous vote current minute secretary Aileen Berry accepted the post.

All other officers were re-elected en block.
