ANNUAL PARISH MEETING: In his chairman's report, Mr Derrick Grainger remarked that many of the subjects he would cover were also in his report last year.

For example, numerous pot holes had been reported and filled, and road surfacing had been completed, but to a poor standard.

The question of the siting of telephone masts in the parish was still causing public alarm and, in spite of requests for mast-sharing, one company had put up a mast at Kinsham.

Mr Grainger reported that the fitting out of the rugby club and football club changing rooms by the clubs themselves was now complete.

The next project, the upgrading of the children's play area, was now in hand and an application was being submitted to Wychavon for a grant.

Meanwhile, three parish councillors and two parishioners were undertaking a sponsored walk of 17 miles around Bredon Hill to raise funds and promote the project.

Mr Grainger outlined the problems involving the provision of skips in the parish.

He said that £400 had had to be paid to have excess rubbish cleared last year.

In an effort to overcome this, two large skips had been provided over a 24-hour period in April.

This had proved to be reasonably successful, except for the dumping of bags of asbestos which the chairman himself, with the help of Mr Chandler had taken to Lower Moor.

Mr Grainger said that thanks were due to various councillors for their work behind the scenes and also for various jobs around the parish including stone picking, a black bag litter pick, cutting and clearing back tree growth, washing of road signs and even stone masonry.

Under AOB, the question of a petition recommending a public mooring at the Dock was considered.

Mr Grainger said that the parish council would soon be discussing the report of the feasibility study and all issues including environmental considerations would be aired.

Mr R Taylor said that most other villages along the River Avon were visitor friendly and he suggested visiting others to gain some knowledge of their policies concerning policing etc.

Mr R Greenslade was interested to know whether the application had commercial implications.

He said that those living in the immediate vicinity of the Dock already suffered from noise pollution and from rowdy behaviour from gangs of youths.

He said the Dock has been well developed as a peaceful area and many came to enjoy this quiet facility.

The question of a pedestrian crossing, perhaps near Bredon Lodge, was discussed.

This is the place where most of the school children cross the road, and also where residents from the Lodge, some of them registered partially sighted also cross.

District councillor Adrian Hardman said that the county council was awaiting results of a vehicle count.

Mr Paul Underhill aired the subject of parking at the school and Mr M Marchment brought up the subject of the blocking of Church Street, particularly during the school terms.

This anxiety was especially over the need for emergency vehicles reaching the school, and residents beyond that point.

Mr Grainger said that once again the police had been consulted but no solution had yet been reached.

PARISH COUNCIL: This was the annual meeting.

The chairman, Derick Grainger, was unanimously re-elected as was Mrs Sally Deakin as vice-chairman.

There was no change in the make-up of the various committee representation, and the re-election to these was passed en bloc.

The success or otherwise of ordering two skips at once to accommodate extra refuse collection was discussed.

In general it was agreed that this idea had worked, but people still took advantage of bringing large pieces of furniture which could be collected by Wychavon for a fee.

The main problem was the dumping of several bags of crushed asbestos roofing which the chairman and another councillor undertook personally to take to Lower Moor for special disposal.

It was agreed that this dumping was inconsiderate and dangerous.

A report was given on the progress towards the upgrading of the children's play area on the playing field.

A pack was being assembled to submit to Wychavon as an application for a grant towards this project.

Meanwhile, the chairman stressed the importance of local fund-raising. To this end, councillors Sally Deakin, Jo Wenham and Wendy Harrison, with the support of two other parishioners have walked around Bredon Hill.
