IT IS not often in a club's history that everyone can just let go and savour the moment of picking up a coveted trophy.

The champagne corks were certainly popping last Thursday as Swifts toasted their Midland Alliance success and promotion to the Dr Martens League Western Division.

Celebrations continued on the Bloxwich pitch before the players retired to the changing rooms for a deserved drink or several after a long, hard season.

Delighted boss Rod Brown, whose side were undefeated in the league this year, was one of those in the party mood.

The achievement had made all the work worthwhile for Brown and his assistant Gary Whild.

The Swifts manager declared: "Winning is a great feeling. It's great for the club and the players.

"To never actually be in charge of the league all season then to win it on the last night is tremendous.

"It's been a long season for everyone concerned and to win any league at any level is just fantastic. They are good lads who have stuck together.

"I feel now we played extremely well against Oadby on the Monday night to give ourselves a platform.

"Bloxwich didn't cause us as much threat in the second half as in the first and that wasn't much."

His thoughts were mirrored by chairman Chris Reynolds who was relieved the title was tied up before he headed off on holiday at the end of last week.

Reynolds admitted: "When we lost to Tooting in the FA Vase earlier in the season, I did think it wasn't going to be our year.

"The lads were a bit disappointed then and the heads were down. But we bounced back and it's something like 27 league games unbeaten."
