A. A Conservative victory on June 7 will be a victory for all people living and working in the countryside.

The Conservative cut in fuel tax of 6p a litre will benefit everyone, especially farmers, hauliers, and pensioners.

Farming incomes have fallen by 75 per cent since 1997 and that was before foot-and-mouth.

Conservatives understand the need to cut red tape. No farmer wants more forms to fill out.

We will speed up the payment of compensation to farmers who are waiting, because farming is the cornerstone of the countryside and so many businesses depend on it.

We will stop importing food from abroad, which is below our own standards or from foot-and-mouth endemic countries.

We will reform CAP. We will stop gold-plating EU regulations and enforce them here in the same way as on the continent.

The Conservatives will create a level playing field for farming and allow farmers to compete fairly.

B. Rural crime is a product of falling police numbers and rising numbers of criminals.

The Labour policy of running down police morale and fudging police recruiting numbers coupled with their early release scheme has made crime pay.

Conservatives will increase the number of policemen. We will cut the red tape they have to put up with and allow them to do the job of policing.

We will end early release. We will ensure that the sentence given is the sentence served.

Conservatives will be tough and ensure that crime does not pay.

We will encourage parishes to have their own parish policemen and we will push to ensue that police are manning the country stations, not just in cars.

The only way to support the victims of crime is to support the police and make the countryside a "no go" area for criminals.

C. Fox hunting should not be a criminal offence. It is a country sport which is not well understood in cities.

While I do not hunt myself I will not vote to ban field sports.
