CALLS have been made for a reduced speed limit through Mappleborough Green after yet another fatal crash, writes Helen Clarke.

A man was killed in a two-vehicle head-on collision on the A435 in Mappleborough Green, outside The Boot pub, just days after another crash nearby in which a 23-year-old woman from Kidderminster lost her life.

Sagrib Mall, 40, from Handsworth, died at the scene of the crash which happened at about 4.45pm on Wednesday.

Mr Mall was the passenger in a Suzuki Baleno heading towards Birmingham when it was in collision with a transit van.

The van driver and the 26-year-old male driver of the Baleno were taken to the Alexandra Hospital.

Duty manager of The Boot, Carl Tough, who was one of the first people on the scene, said these were the latest in a series of crashes which had taken place during his year in the village.

He said: "There have been so many crashes in this area, something has to be done about it. The speed limit has to be reduced. At the moment it is national but it needs to come down."

A spokesman for Warwickshire Highways Agency, which is responsible for the A435 said: "We're looking at traffic calming measures that can be implemented which should help sort this out.

"We shall be consulting with the police and with parishes. The plan is to set the limit to 50mph from Gorcott Hill to just south of The Dog Inn island and 40mph through to the start of Studley where it then changes to 30mph anyway.

"If our plans are accepted then we hope the work will be started in autumn."
