TEN children from Malvern Parish School took part in the regional Megafinal of the UK Chess Challenge 2001 on Saturday and achieved their best results ever with six children qualifying for the national Gigafinal at Sheffield in July.
Joe Foulds won the Under 7 Boys section, Lucy Canham was runner up in the Under 11 Girls, losing only to a girl who is a previous national age group winner, Jonathan Fane was runner up in the Under 10 Boys, Jonathan Horne was 3rd in the Under 8 Boys and Jonathan White & Ben Marks qualified in the Under 11 Boys.
