LITTLETON were looking to consolidate their position at the top of the Mercian Elgar U14s Junior League in this, the last game of the season for both teams.

LITTLETON 2, WELLAND 2

Welland had other ideas though and after 15 minutes Tom Holland calmly slotted the ball home to give the away side a deserved lead. Ten minutes later Littleton equalised with a superb shot from the edge of the area.

After the break, Littleton surged forward, pinning Welland back and raining shots in - Nick Garth's heroics in goal keeping them out until, inevitably, he was beaten by a high ball for 2-1 to the home side. Littleton then missed a penalty and with it the chance to wrap up the game. Welland came back at Littleton, winning a free kick outside the box. Holland tapped it to Gerald Chance who hit a pile driver of a shot to make it 2-2 and that's how it remained as the final whistle brought to an end a hugely entertaining and sporting game. Man of the match was Nick Garth.

MALVERN WANDERERS 3,

NEWTOWN SPORTS 3

AS anticipated a hard fought battle emerged as both sides were challenging for the Mercian U12s title.

However it was Wanderers who opened the scoring five minutes before the interval when a Matt Bayer free kick found the top corner from 20 yards out. With the home team hoping to take a half time advantage it came to no avail as David Reynolds also converted a well struck free kick from distance to equalise.

The second half had all the competence of the first and Wanderers took the initiative seven minutes into the second period when Michael Pearson finished from close range following a defensive mix up. Midway through the second half a well struck shot from Lee Jenkins pulled the visitors level. The goal spurred on the visitors who were rewarded when David Reynolds finished tidily to put Newtown 3-2 up. Wanderers gambled by pushing players forward for corners and were rewarded minutes from time when Matt Bayer headed home a fine kick from Shaun Carrey.

Man of the match for Wanderers was the whole team, Newtown's man of the match was Lee Jenkins.

DROITWICH ARROWS 3,

WELLAND JUNIORS 3

WELLAND travelled to Droitwich for their final match in a very competitive Mercian Elgar Under 12s Junior League and because of injuries Welland were forced to play the whole game with just ten players.

Three times Droitwich took the lead and each time Welland replied with a goal from Richard Pitt and a double from Russell Alderson. Both teams tried for the winner but despite several good chances and one scramble on the line the game finished as a draw.

This has been an excellent first season for Welland Many thanks to all the parents for their support all season and a huge thank you from players and parents to Pete Manion and Jamie Atkinson for giving the boys new skills but especially for making sure they play with the correct attitude.

Man of the match was Russell Alderson.

MALVERN WANDERERS 3,

DRAKES BROUGHTON 0

DRAKES Broughton were the latest visitors to Spring Lane to take on the Wanderers in this Mercian Elgar Under 12s Junior League match.

The home team took the game territorially for the majority of the first half, Shaun Carey caused problems for the defence but at the interval it was 0-0.

Five minutes into the second half a fine through ball from Matt Bayer picked out Michael Dicapita who gave the keeper no chance.

This stepped up the tempo of the home sides and 20 minutes into the second half a well flighted Shaun Carrey corner was headed home clinically from six yards out by Michael Dicapita. Two minutes from time Michael Dicapita picked out Gareth Atkinson to score from close range. Man of the match was Shaun Carrey.

NEWTOWN SPORTS 4,

BROCKHAMPTON BADGERS 1

NEWTOWN Sports played a six pointer in the Mercian Elgar U12s League and came out deserving winners and must rue the draw the teams played out last week.

Newtown opened the scoring when David Reynolds was brought down in the box and Mathew Lakey strode up and placed the ball into the top corner.

In the second period Brockhampton got one back but within minutes Newtown were back in front when Lee Jenkins knocked a perfect ball forward for David Reynolds to head over the stranded keeper. Adam Oakley then celebrated another outstanding goal by running the wing then cutting into the Brockhampton goal area and smashing the ball past the keeper. Newtown always looked in control and Craig Philpotts played his normal solid game and John Davies battled his way throughout. Later Michael James cleared one off the line but the game was already Newtown's before David Reynolds sealed Brockhampton's biggest defeat of the season.

Man of the match was captain Mathew Lakey.

DROITWICH SPA LIONS 0,

NEWTOWN SPORTS BOYS 1

NEWTOWN Sports Boys travelled to Droitwich for their final away game of the season in the Mercian Elgar Under 10s Junior League in a match which was to decide the final league positions.

The Lions started strongly but the Boys pushed forward on every occasion but strong defending from the Lions made it difficult.

With the second half starting all level the deadlock was finally broken when midway through the half Lee Mason crossed the ball for Marc Twinberrow to head the ball over the advancing keeper. The Boys continued to push forward keeping the Lions pinned in their own half. They did break on occasions but with his tenth clean sheet of the season keeper, Stuart Johnson, denied them an equaliser. With the points in the bag Newtown Sports Boys became the champions with one game remaining.

NEWTOWN SPORTS COLTS 0,

MCL CLAINES 1

IN the Mercian U10 League Cup Final held at the Malvern Town ground, the Colts put on a great show.

The Colts took the game to Claines and tried to play their normal passing game and it was a hard battle but most of the opening chances went to the Colts. Firstly, Louis Jones found himself in some space and struck a powerful shot against the post. A couple of minutes later, following a good pass form Wesley Powell, Louis Jones shot just wide. However, in their only attack of the first half, Claines gained the advantage. The Colts keeper David Rowley did well to get to a high lob, unfortunately the rebound found its way to the Claines striker who struck the ball into the goal.

In the second-half the Colts continued looking for a goal and were nearly rewarded when Louis Jones again struck a post. Tom Hale was man of the Match. It was a great achievement for the Cotteswold Dairies sponsored Colts and their manager was extremely proud of their attitude and commitment on the day.
