ECONOMICALLY, Europe is of far greater importance to the UK than is North America. Sixty per cent of British exports go to other EU countries.

Within the USA, Silicon Valley and California have now become of greater significance to Washington than the north-east of the country. Consequently the main focus of American foreign policy has moved away from Europe to the Far East and Pacific Rim.

If England does not join Europe it will have no alternative but to become a mere dependency of the superpower. If the euro does not replace sterling, the dollar will.
