THE Moles captain Nick Salt won the toss and elected to bat in fine sunny conditions at Mathon Court.

WEST MALVERN v THE MOLES

The West Malvern attack made a quick breakthrough dismissing P Martin for nought. An excellent stand between D Lowenstein and S Beach followed, taking the Moles beyond 100 before Beach was run out in a terrible mix up. Wickets then fell at regular intervals, but the batting was aggressive enough to take the score to 156 - 6 before the declaration. Bob Tune and Brian Green were the pick of the West's bowlers, both taking two wickets.

In reply, a weakened West Malvern batting line up were restricted by a good opening spell by Watkins and Sherlock. Andy Wood and Geoff Hall, then Andy Wood and Brian Green managed to accelerate the scoring, until there was a chance of victory for the West.

Only when these two were dismissed did the draw become the best result West could hope for.

Some aggression from John Mantle did inspire a little hope, but it was down to Tim Paige and James Stewart to play out the last four overs.

The match ended in a draw.

WELLINGTON v WEST MALVERN

WEST Malvern won the toss and put Wellington into bat on an extremely bad artificial surface with irregular or no bounce.

Bowlers had a field day with wickets falling at regular intervals, Andy Llewellyn getting five wickets for ten runs. Wellington were all out for 51.

West Malvern in reply after a cautious start decided strokes could be played and to their loss of wickets found that the cavalier approach in retrospect was a mistake. Although a stand of 24 runs by James Blackshaw and Will Perkins gave reason for hope, West Malvern were bowled all out for 40 runs losing out in a match made for bowlers.
