BARNARDS Green 3rds entertained Colwall and in a topsy- turvy game came out winners by 24 runs on Saturday.

BARNARDS GREEN 2ND XI v COLWALL 3RD XI

Invited to bat first, the Green got off to an excellent start through Rob Lewis (45) and Marc Jones (46) who put on 110 for the first wicket in 21 overs, before Lewis was well caught by Tringham off Mike Colquhoun (6-25), who well supported by Rick Lewis with 4-16.

Poor application by the Green batsmen resulted in what appeared to be a low score of 148 giving Colwall 52 overs to reach their target. Marc Jones showed a good selection of shots in his innings of 46 and McQueen bowled a good line and length in his 12 over spell.

In reply Colwall were given a solid start and raced to 40 off their first eight overs before the introduction of skipper Robin Longmore and Henry Gregory frustrated them with a good tight line and length.

Gregory was rewarded with the scalp of Colquhoun (22) well caught by keeper Tim Price. An excellent piece of fielding by Kieran Deegan resulted in the run out of Rick Lewis (15) with a direct hit and this proved the turning point.

Rob Lewis finished with 5-16 off 10 overs and special mention to his 13-year-old son Jonathon who fielded well in his first senior match for the Green.
