G WALTON'S "simple mathematical exercise" has one fatal flaw (You Say, May 14).

We have already capitulated to our former enemies, surrendered our sovereignty and lost the freedom of self-determination that we hitherto held so dear.

There seems little point in pretending we have anything left to defend or that we are any longer a world power with wide commitments.

Personally, I would prefer it otherwise, which is why I propose to vote for the UK Independence Party in the forlorn hope that a few politicians in the main parties may begin to understand the strength of feeling.

JOHN HINTON, Worcester.
