Sagitta 2000 Guineas winner Island Sands can land his first race since the 1999 Newmarket Classic tomorrow, albeit in less exalted company at Haydock.

To be fair to the horse, he has only had four races since going into the turf record books thanks to a neck win over Enrique on May Day two years ago.

A foot injury caused him to miss the rest of his three-year-old campaign after he had finished fifth to Saffron Walden when favourite in the Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh.

He reappeared 15 months later to have what turned out to be his only run last term and turned in a fair effort when runner-up to Penny's Gold in a Group Three race at Deauville.

No longer under the Godolphin banner, Islands Sands now carries the colours of Maktoum Al Maktoum and is in the care of David Loder - presumably to help with the two-year-olds.

And he has done nothing wrong in two outings this season.

After failing by a length to hold off Golani in a Group Three event at Saint-Cloud in late March, he was beaten a similar distance into third place behind Nicobar and Swallow Flight.

That fine effort came in the Group Two Masai Mile at Sandown and both first and second have gone on to boost the form. Now it is Islands Sands's turn in the Renault Kangoo Van Conditions Stakes.

Jedi Knight, runner-up to Ferzao at York last week, can go one better in the Renault Cleo Van Stakes (Showcase Handicap).

Mick Easterby's seven-year-old only went down by a length and three-quarters to Amanda Perrett's smart performer in what was a competitive heat.

He has less to do here.

Arundel trainer John Dunlop sends an interesting type to Haydock in Lucky Rainbow who tackles the Renault Master Minibus Maiden Fillies' Stakes.

His daughter of Rainbow Quest ran Double Crossed to a length and a quarter on her debut at Sandown a month ago and the winner went on to win a controversial Lingfield Oaks Trial from another Dunlop inmate Silver Grey Lady.

Lailani, trained by Dunlop's son Ed, can defy a 3lb penalty in the Renault Manchester Rated Stakes (Handicap).

After trotting up in a Windsor maiden by 10 lengths from Bible Box last month, she made a successful handicap debut at Newmarket last week when edging out Playtime by half a length.

More wins look on the cards from this improving Unfuwain filly.

Barry Hills rarely leaves Pontefract empty-handed and the Lambourn trainer can capture the feature £10,000 Weatherbys Stallion Book Conditions Stakes at tomorrow's evening fixture with Magic Trick.

His runner steps up to six furlongs having shown useful form over the minimum trip, including when winning at Newmarket.

He was far from disgraced when third to Simianna at Chester two weeks ago and can regain the winning thread here.

Ball King, an eye-catching fifth to Fast Foil at Brighton three weeks ago, has sound claims in the Micklegate Handicap.

Gerard Butler's runner, who scored on his only start as a two-year-old, has plenty of scope for improvement.
