WE were sorry to read of the inconvenience experienced by Mr Sexton (Evesham Journal May 10) when parents bring their children to Bengeworth School in the morning and collect them in the afternoon.

Unfortunately, in this age of the motor car, this is a problem experienced by anyone who lives close to a school. Looking on the bright side, however, it is only for a very short time twice a day and it does not happen at weekends or during the many weeks of school holidays. We are well aware of the problem of traffic congestion in Burford Road and Harvey Road at peak times and we monitor the situation constantly. The majority of parents do not park inconsiderately and, because traffic moves so slowly, we do not feel that children are at increased risk. We very much regret the inconvenience to local residents and regularly write to our parents requesting them to park considerately (see school newsletter to parents March 30 this year). We also allow use of the school playground for parking or school events out of school hours. Parking is a regular agenda item at governor meetings and we have asked Wychavon District Council to consider the problem at their Resources Committee, the suggestion being to create a permit which will allow parents to park in car parks local to schools at certain times of day during term time. We are currently awaiting the outcome of these deliberations. Meanwhile, we would suggest that local residents experiencing problems contact Brian Norfolk, Head of Community Services at Wychavon District Council. We assure you that the school is doing its very best to minimise problems to residents and to ensure the safety of the children at our school.

JANET OSBORNE, Chairman of Governors, Bengeworth First School, Burford Road, Evesham.
